Spot a Mountie in the streets of Pittsburgh

Keep your eyes peeled: You might spot one of several authentic Canadian Mounties who’ll be in locations around town this week — to learn where, follow us on Twitter: @canadaPGH. If you find one, shake hands or have your picture taken and Tweet us your photo — we’ll be publishing the best here. Prizes will be given out to randomly-selected participants.

What are Mounties?

A “Mountie” is a member of The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Their unique scarlet tunics and distinctive hats are recognized throughout the world.

The RCMP is the Canadian national police service and an agency of the Ministry of Public Safety Canada. The RCMP is unique in the world since it is a national, federal, provincial and municipal policing body.

The RCMP provides a total federal policing service to all Canadians and policing services under contract to the three territories, eight provinces (except Ontario and Quebec), more than 150 municipalities, more than 600 Aboriginal communities and three international airports.
